link comps with out network?

could i just use an ethiernet cord and hook two comps together and trasfer files or would i need a special setup? if so links to hardware would be apreicated.

You need something known as a crossover cable. It's just an ethernet cable wired a tad different.

Yea use a crossover cable. If u already got a Straight cable but no crossover u can get a little coupling that crosses it over.

thanks all, i found a little keychain crossover on thinkgeek for like 5$.
