Default Need some Installing Advice

Hey whats up everyone i bought everything for my comp so i was just wondering if you guys could give me advice for installing a big heatsink without snapping the MOBO in two. I have a Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Board and a Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu HS, see this is my first build and dont want to screw up anything.
But i wont be building my comp just yet, im in the process of moving next month so i've packed up just about everything.

Thanks in Advance...

I genrally install the HS on the board before installing it all in the case. Just put down the ststic bag and the pink ( or whatever color) foam pad that your board came with on a flat surface ( desk or ?? ) and install the HS , and ram ( ram first if it looks like its gonna be a tight fit installing it after the HS.

BEST ADVICE - TAKE YOUR TIME , oh and set up the case for the mobo ( stand offs) before assmbeling the mobo / HS , that way its easier to handle the mobo to make sure you got all the standoffs in the right place.

Hmmm.... Yeah i knew that part about the RAM and placing bag under the mobo. But uhh im talking about like handling the board after you install the heatsink, i know i can't pick it up by the heatsink it will snap the mobo in half and i think if i pick the board up by the edges(i use ESDwrist strap also) i wish it would of been easier to handle the board once the heatsink is installed. My case is a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream it doesn't have a detachable mobo tray kinda wish it did have one.

Wink

Just pick it up by the edges, I've done that a zillion times...

You're really over thinking things. The mobo isn't made of glass.

Correct. Quit worrying dude, its not gonna break if you pick it up by the HSF, although I wouldnt advise that anyway.

Just pick it up by the edges and carefully drop it in (not literally)

A second set of hands wouldn't hurt either.

I've found having someone else help hold wires/drives/cages while you put things together helps out a ton.

Well , in light of your reply, yes pick up by the edges and or the edge and the HSF ( if you have to, to get it in the case). Again just take your time and be careful, you'll do fine.
a motherboard actually has a bit of flex to it, although i wouldnt go testing the limits of it, so as long as you pay attention you should do just fine.

Also, the tsunami dream has a special standoff in the middle (with a knob on the top). This will ensure that the motherboard can rest in place while you attach the other screws

Like everyone has said, just pick it up by the edges. It would take a lot more than that to crack the mobo. I'm sure you'll do fine.

Lol take an old slot1 mobo or something equally ****e, go outside, and break it with your bare hands.

Then you'll have some idea of how strong motherboards are. Im also pretty sure they've gotten a bit tougher since the early days.
