| PCApex's Mac Man | My girlfriend has a ton of old tape from when she lived in China, and would really like to have them on the computer, is there a way I can do that easily? I shouldnt say play tapes on the computer, I mean to rip them to .mp3, mp4, etc...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | What you want to do is buy either an A/V card/external unit or a TV tuner card/external unit, a L/R to 3.5mm stereo adapter, and video and audio cables to connect the device to your VCR. Plug your yellow composite or s-video cable to your card's or external box's jack or adapter. Plug your white and red cables to the adapter and plug that into your card's or external box's input jack. Tell your recording program to record from either the composite or s-video jack while using XVID or DIVX to compress your video; my advice is to stick with a bitrate of about 700kbps. | Editor/Reviewer/LED Guru | Just take a cassette deck with audio output on the back or a mic plug.... get the appropriate cable 3.5 to 3.5 or 3.5 to RCAx2 and plug it into the line in on your Mobo/Sound card.... simple..... use a program like Cake walk or something and select Line In as the input source in audio recording properties of windows.... hit play... click record.... Viola.... wait for it to finish a song then stop and repeat or record a whole side then chop it.... easy...... Oh yeah.... Did I mention EASY.... and it dont cost you hardly anything.... |

| PCApex's Mac Man | Thats, sweet but *cough* would hurt my wallet... a lot. I'll talk to my girlfriend see how many tapes she has. If it isnt to many I'll just hook up a tape deck and record them to .wav, chop them into tracks with Acid Pro and then convert them to .mp3... Thanks for the quick response though.. Twisted, you read my mind, cakewalk ahh!!! I really really dont like that software.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ive been using Twizteds method for ages now to rip my grandfathers record collection to my machine to make him CDs ![]() Its cheap, quick and easy. I personally like to use CoolEdit Pro 2 to convert to MP3, CakeWalk is expensive and has so much stuff you don't need for the task.

I forgot about Audacity, it is pretty nice as well for a free program. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Whoops, I was thinking VCR tapes instead of audio cassettes. The latest Winamp has a line-in (the blue 3.5mm jack) plug-in and a waveform file output plug-in, and I'm partial to CDex for my mp3 creations. |
