Yeah I know you can do that. It's complete BS though. I had this one order where my shipping cost doubled the cost of the order w/UPS. Changing it to FedEx would have been even more outrageous.

They could have kept FedEx as their default shipping provider and raised rates a buck. Instead they use UPS to save a dollar or two and the customer gets crappy service. Now since UPS is the default you have to pay 4 to 5 dollars more for FedEx.

There is no need to quote me on the numbers. I'm just basing them off of the past few orders I've done w/ Newegg. I'm not trying to make a rule just an observation.

NewEgg has been nothing but awesome for me. I've dumped thousands of dollars into computer parts through them, and the UPS shipping has never let me down. Never had to RMA a part through them (except my old DDR600 RAM, but did that through OCZ directly). I always recommend that people order through them because of the prices, as well as the raw selection of parts. Not to mention the easy to use website, and the dream-quenching Wish Lists.

For computer hardware (other than cases and accessories), I usually use (and in the following order):

NewEgg
ZipZoomFly
anyone else with a decent customer feedback rating on Reseller Ratings

For cases and modding stuffs, the order for me is usually:

Performance-PCs
FrozenCPU
Xoxide
SVC

Would've been the same - the reason they started offering UPS was because FedEx has a 20% hike in rates.

Where do you guys live?! I've never had anything come in late from UPS and I'm not really sure why everybody hates them....anyway, that's a different thread, I suppose.

On Topic: Newegg has just officially become my retailer. It's always been my unofficial retailer, but my latest experience just solidified it as the only place I'm gonna use.

I purchased a 1GB A-DATA USB flash drive from them about 2 weeks ago, and stupid me, I ordered the wrong one (they have a hard plastic one and a rubbery one, I wanted the rubbery one). I called to get an RMA to return it and buy a new one. No big deal. I talked to a customer servie rep who told me to keep the one I had, and they would credit me back to cost so I could get the one that I wanted. I got free USB flash drive because of a mistake that I made! That's customer service to the extreme and I will probably not shop anywhere else. (Unless I absolutely must have something that day, then I'll go to a brick and mortar)

So far Newegg has been pretty good to me, except the one time I wanted to return an Asus A8N-SLI Premium. Certain products they sell have warnings saying that refund RMA's aren't possible.

Luckily I managed to find someone to buy it off of me, but the whole thing made me appreciate walk-in places much more.

My e-tailers of choice are:
Newegg.com
MWave.com
Xoxide.com
XPCGear.com

My retailer of choice is Fry's Electronics.

Oh, here's a way to get around UPS (or FedEx or whoever) from breaking or losing anything. If you're willing to pay an extra 1.50, you can declare the value of the package as over $300.01. It will be wrapped in protective covering and hand carried to each truck, never once touching a conveyor belt. It's also usually loaded onto the truck near the end of the sort, so not much stuff will get stacked on top of it. Just in case you wanted to know.

How do you get that service when doing a normal checkout? What do you select for shipping?

You should be able to ship it any way you want. I'm not sure if you can do it if you're ordering online, unless they have an insurance option. That essentially does the same thing, although all packages are insured up to $99.99 for free. It can be a PITA to get the money back, but they'll give it to ya if you'll bug 'em. I'll check tonight while I'm at work and see what the correct procedure for declaring a high-value is when it's ordered.
