| I want to get a new stick of ram soon, Im just gunna get rid of my old 2700 stick its slowing down my system. I want to get a gig of ram and I do overclock my system so it needs to be good for overclocking. I dont know which is more important I could get a stick of ram with a cas of 2, the highest speed you can get that at would be 3200. I can get a stick of ram with a cas of 2.5, the highest speed of that would be 3500. I could get a stick of ram with a cas of 3, the highest speed you can get that at would be 4000. So basicly what is more important The cas rating, the timings, or the speed? And what ram would be recommended for my system? I can't seem to get my computer to run stable any were above 269fsb at 268fsb it runs very stable. I am pretty shure its my ram that is holding my system back, since its 4 year old cheap 2700 ram. My system specs are in my sig and the link below if you need em. Last edited by xLastShotx; 19-January-06 at 06:56 AM.. | ||

| My experience with the Timings vs Speed debate is that, well, it depends. I did some benchmarking on a MSI 875P board a while back with Corsair 3200LL (2-2-2-5) and 4000 (3-4-4-7). Starting at 200mhz FSB and up to about 220 the LL RAM performed better. From 220-250 I had to loose then timings on the LL to make it stable, but it was still a tiny bit faster then the PC4000. I couldn't, at the time, get the system to be stable above 250. Now, making the assumption that the same trend would apply to the AMD platform and the overclocks you stated you are currently getting I would go with the faster RAM because by the time you get the LL to run at those overclocks you will have to loosen the timings on the LL RAM to be about the same as the faster one. | ||

| I have been looking at ram from new egg.com and if I am going for speed then I have found 2 sticks im not shure which one is better though, I found that it is almnost impossible to find reviews on single channel 1gb ram sticks, there all dual channel reviews. Here are the 2: OCZ Platinum Edition 1GB PC4000 Timings 3-3-2-8 Cas 3 Mushkin eXtreme Performance 1GB PC4000 Timings 3-3-2-8 Cas 3 Last edited by xLastShotx; 19-January-06 at 09:40 PM.. | ||
