Default need help bulding simple RF device

I need to build a simple RF transmitter and receiver to do the following
I need to be able to press a button to wirelessly make a beeping sound
the receiver has to be as small as possible and preferably be able to run on 1.5 -3 volts
the rest dose not rely matter it would be kind of cool if the transmitter could run on 5 volts so I could power it from a usb port, it only has to work as far as a small bedroom

the intended purpose is to put the receivers in a few things so I can find them because I keep losing them

I like the idea. I think a wireless doorbell mod might work for this, i know they come big, but i know you can also get really tiny battery operated ones also..... Check on www.smarthome.com

Have you tried google for this? Its pretty simple and should work. You can buy a kit to do it from electronics stores.

First off, you can use a 555 Timer To Send a series of pulses to a RF modulator (or transmitter..), You can use a FM radio to hear the tone too.

First the lecture on FCC laws. YOu have to go look them up. If you dont you can be fined $10k or put in jail if the device exceedes a certain amount of power. But what band do you want to transmit and recieve on?

Or use a PIC and a MICRF103

Or a MICRF103 with a 555 transmitter and a switch. For the rec you can use MICRF005

These are Very Cheap and can transmit from 800 Mhz to 1Ghz. BUT becareful sicne most cordless phones run on 900Mhz (and you cant hack them that way either, the transmission sequence is encoded)

And note There is some math required for those chips.
