Default Decisions Decisions

I just finished reinstalling my main rig with some new hardware thanks to our wonderful forum, and was looking for a quick spot of advice.

Since I have been out of gaming for a bit I am not sure what graphics card I should run in my rig. I have a GeForce 6200 128 mb and an ATI 9600XT 128mb. Are these cards basically the same level or does one have a decent edge over the other?

Thanks,
Kardiacc

Don't know much about it but i know some 6200's can have extra pixel lines opened up very easy.

Thumbs up

Well, personally (having owned a 5200FX which was basically the same thing minus SM3.0 and certain obvious revisions in PCB/memory/ definite lower overall throughput and older tech but much more solid/powerful than it seemed on paper, often exceeding my expectations of playable med/high-res settings) I'd say any 6200 is much faster than a 9600XT in newer games to begin with having an equal number of pixel pipelines aswell (1x4/ or 2x2) (it can scorch a 9800SE in cases, settling roughly around 9800NP performance in Doom 3). With the promise of extra unlockable pipes, theres no denying it may prove to be around six times as proficient than the fastest 9600XT in the next 3DMark..

If you can unlock the 6200 to a 6600, then yes the nVidia part is faster. Otherwise, the 9600XT, with it's ~500Mhz core, will crush it.

In peace, nothing so becomes a man as modesty and humility, but when the blast of war blows in our ears, then imitate the action of the tiger, summon up the blood, disguise fair nature with rage and lend the eye a terrible aspect.
