Sure, that's a pretty significant performance boost going from an Athlon XP 2400 to an A64 3700.

As for a mobo, I would recommend anything from ASUS, as I've had a K8V SE Deluxe for over a year and haven't had a problem yet. Though your not running a socket 754 proc like me, asus still makes awesome boards for 939. You can also try looking for DFI boards on the Egg, I've heard nothing but good things about DFI's mobos...

edit-
btw, welcome to pimprig

ABit is known for King of O/Cs tho.. So it's a good choice if he plans to overclock, if not.. ASUS or DFI will suit him well.

do you have the budget to upgrade to the 512Meg 7800XFX?

abit is in the top few...but not the king, DFI will take the cake every time in that catigory for s939.

Welcome to Pimprig drewk302,
hardware looks fine, this upgrade will be like night and day compared to your previous rig.
i would recomend the Arctic cooling NV silencer 5 rev.3 for your vid card to keep the noise down and temps stable.

Linky to the cooler
Linky to another mobo to look at

I really like that case.... nice choice of graphics card as well (I'd love to own that one!).

And I'm madly in love with this mainboard;

Been using Asus for years... this one is stable as a rock & remains pretty cool as well!

i was very torn between the dfi lanparty, asus, and the abit. i want to overclock as much as i saftely can, this is my first build, and people on another site (non computer specific site) were recomending the abit, saying that asus has very bad support and some problems, i forgot what exactly, and that the abit was just better than the dfi. As i read on i ve havent seen much bad said about the dfi so i am still unsure what to get. i want a mobo that i could possibly keep for a while (i.e. upgrade everything around it if thats possible) and i want it to be fast with alot of options. thanks everyone.

Overclocking, my dear boy, can never be considered safe. That is why we do it.

As for motherboards, Gigabyte make rock solid, feature packed mobos with decent overclockability too. I got my Opteron 146 to 2.8Ghz on stock voltage perfectly stable with my K8NXP SLi

If you really want to push the limits of your hardware though, DFI is the way to go. Better prepare to re-learn the BIOS though

If you worry about damaging your stuff, then I would suggest an ASUS board, either the A8N-SLI Deluxe or A8N-SLI Premium.

The ASUS board layout is more thought out versus most of the DFI boards with the exception of the new Crossfire board and the nForce 4 Expert board. Also, the ASUS won't let you raise the voltages as high so you can't really burn anything out.
