| well i was planning on getting a new LCD tv, but now that i think about it i already have this nice LG 24" monitor thats already capable of 1080p. its optimal res. is 1920x1200. all id need now would just be the tv tuner box. whats one that that connects through VGA, have a NSTC coaxal tuner, have composite and component inputs, and have decent picture quality. anyone have something they had experience with to recommend? price isnt really an issue here, since most of them run around ~100 anyway. but i wouldnt want to spend money not needed. | ||

| Apex Tech Fanatic | i was in the same situation a little while ago. i had replaced my TV with a 24 inch LCD. 1900x1200, but has HDMI connections. i had tried tuner cards, but was severly disappointed with the outcome. i have cable Tv with HD channels. picture quality was very poor, and could not get in some of the HD channels i wanted, or i could not record shows or channels i wanted. i decided i would get a Tivo. i havent been disappointed yet. been record all my shows like a mofo. i picked up a HD tivo for only $250 ( norm $299). you can find them cheaper on ebay, or if you want new and dont care about HD you can pick up the standard box for only $179 unless you go to ebay, and i have seent hem there for REAL cheap. honestly, i tried 3 different tuner cards. not 1 of them was capable of producing any pictures like the one i get from the tivo. plus, with a tuner card you will not be able to record HD channels that come from the cable company. you can only record the local HD chanels. with my Tivo, im able to record all the HD stuff minus the pay per view type | |

I think I still have my standard def Pinnacle Systems tuner card ... I have absolutely no use for it, and you're welcome to it if you just want to play around with it. PM me. -godling

how does that tivo thing work? dont you need a subscription? or do i just buy a box and hook up my current cable line to it? im currently subscribed to time warner cable HD. oh and btw, im not really looking for a tv tuner CARD. im looking for a VGA-cable converter box, like this. has nothing to do with the PC.

| Apex Tech Fanatic | the Tivo works great. liek i said i tried to do the tuner card approach, but in the end it would not do what i want. record comcast HD shows and movies. so it was either not record them at all, or buy a tivo. there is a couple of different payment plans to choice from, but right now i pay 12.95 a month. you can buy yearly, 3 year and life time plans. i figure i would try it out for a year before i drop $400 for a life time plan. but ya, i have been record shows left and right and shovign them on my media server. i can stream the movies to my desktop PC or to any PC in my house actually. once i convert them to a format that my PS3 can read, i can stream them to that too, or just pick up a xbox360. | |
