Default Wich ram to pick?

I've been trying to decide for awhile now, but still can't seem to choose out of the Corsair Dominator 2x1 Gb 1066Mhz and the Corsair 2x2Gb XMS2 800Mhz. I'm aware that Vista 32Bit won't be able to utilize all 4Gb but 3.5ish is good too. I'm currently using 2Gb's of value ram wich seems to run fine besides in some games and app's it get's choppy. I will most likley do some mild overclocking with the Q6600 maybe to 3.2-3.6 but atm the Value ram is holding me back. The Corsair Dominators are said to overclock well and the XMS2 not so well. So i'm really confused wich one to get, some pro help might help me solve things out

Corsair XMS2: Centre Com Online
$117 (Store Price)
Corsair Dominator: Centre Com Online
$83 (Store Price)

Do you have to shop at that store? I'm sure you could find a better deal elsewhere. 4GB is kinda essential in Vista, but I share your concerns about overclocking. That 4GB of Corsair stuff is pretty slow. You really want to aim for some cheap 1000mhz stuff, something like the OCZ Reaper Xs.

Question Re: Wich ram to pick?

Well Centrecom is the best store in my town/Suburb. I would love to buy online but without a credit card and my parent's not liking the internet it's hard not to buy from there.

I'm Leaning towards the Corsair Dominator but it's 2Gb and 4Gb set is $180 so im not even gonna think of that. Maybe in the future i can buy another set and bump it up to 4Gb, but what will i benifet more from the 2x1Gb 1066Mhz Dominator or the 2x4Gb 800Mhz XMS2 ram?

One thing to try if you want to buy something from newegg or anyware online for that matter and don't have a credit card or don't want to use one you have, is go to a bank and get some cash put on a pre paid credit card. I know my girlfriend dose this when she goes on trips and orders thing online.

If I were you, I'd go the prepaid credit card route Spatha mentioned (great tip btw) and order THESE.

They actually cost about $11 more than the Reaper X reflux mentioned (after rebates and shipping charges) but the heat-pipes aren't so wide that they'll prevent you from upgrading in the future as is the case with the Reaper X.

Get my vote. I think they use Micron ICs as well, instead of the Powerchip ones the Reaper Xs use.

Straps/memory dividers are not my strong point, and I wish they were here. But I remember that if you run an 8x multi (which you really should if you can) one of the strap options is running the memory at about 900mhz. The Corsair C5 4GB kit should do that OK, so I'd go with that. I think having more RAM is probably more beneficial than having less, running blindingly fast.

I agree and I don't know for sure but I remember reading somewhere that with Intel CPU's, having higher memory bandwidth is more important than lower latencies.

Let us know how you get on. Make sure you set the timings and voltage all correctly once you've installed it (don't rely on the SPD settings as they are very conservative.) And when overclocking, don't put more than 2.2v through them....and for that amount of voltage, you want some extra cooling.

Lightbulb Re: Wich ram to pick?

Well after talking to my parents they said they would help me pay extra for the 4Gb kit of dominator ram.
So i just need some fast feedback. Is anyone running 4x1Gb of this or any other sort of 1066Mhz ram in the Asus P5K-E WiFi Mobo?.

Nice, you have cool parents! Bear in mind running four seperate sticks of RAM places more strain on the memory controller, so you'll have to give the northbridge a bit more voltage than before. You're going to have a very fast system!
