| Hey whats up guys? I am about to buy a new monitor because my old Viewsonic VX922 went out after two years. Purchasing the monitor back in 2006, now as of 2008 it died So i am about to buy a Hanns G HW 191DPB Seems like a pretty good monitor, but i have a question though i was on cnet.com and i was reading some more specs on this monitor, and i was curious what is backlight life? the backlight life on this one is 50,000 Hrs. So does this mean that this monitor will die in about 2-3 years like my old one? Thanks In Advance | ||

This may sound silly but will using a screen saver help this problem in the future? (over the years) in longevity. Thanks again for your help

No it doesn't sound silly. Older CRT moniters would have a ghosting issue if a image was in one place for an extended period of time. The main reason for the creation of screen savers. LCD's do not have this issue and screeen savers are not required. To honestly maximize the life of a monitor, have it go to sleep acter 5 minutes of inactivity. I run mine with the screen saver to kick in at 10 minutes then turn off after 20. I have seen moniters with over 10,000 hours of life loged for run time.

Actually I have seen several Viewsonic LCDs at the organization I do tech support at that have gotten some strange ghosting burn in from images that have sat on the screen for an extended amount of time. The image is a very feint white that almost looks like a ghost. I have mainly seen this from the Windows Logon screen and on PC's where there was no "turn off monitor" setting set in the power settings menu.
