Default RVT-12025D Curiosity from those who know

Kingwin Revolution RVT-12025D Heatpipe CPU Cooler

OK, now I havent bought the thing.. but Im curious, my other half has a board (MSI) with a XP3200+ CPU and it keeps having thermal issues (lockups and reboots). Now Ive seen some positive reviews and to be honest, the 120mm fan makes my tongue hard but there is nothing in there about Socket A, there is semptron mention but I know there is similarities and what not. With the way sockets and boards are going of late I'd like to be sure the sucker will work before I shell out the 45 to order the thing. The case is standard and I have an 80 intake and output... she isnt crunching numbers so there "shouldnt" be any thermal issues.

Feedback?

Sempr0n?
Default Re: RVT-12025D Curiosity from those who know

If it doesn't mention Socket A, it most likely won't fit. Socket A is a dead duck now. By the mention of the Sempr0n I think they mean the Socket 754, Socket 939, Socket AM2, and Socket S1 Sempr0ns, not the original Socket A Sempr0n.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I guess I'll have to keep hunting for something.. since size really isnt a problem I'm hoping that some extremely large honking heatsink will do the job. But reviews go either way generally based on what site you look at (no offense but sponsorship has its perks to bad one isnt an unbiased review). Feedback and suggestions are of course welcome.

Look at all the old skool pimps coming back! I don't think we've met, welcome home!

As for socket A heatsinks, its getting incredibly hard to find anything worth buying. Newegg doesn't offer much, although a search turned up this which I seem to remember getting pretty good reviews at the time of release.

Heres a pretty detailed review with some close ups of installation should you purchase one

Old skool? Why son I was modding with sticks I rubbed to sharp edges on the ground to cut window kits long before you and the dremel came along.. (I think it goes something like that).

Seriously, thanks for the greeting and the response

Thermalright SI-97 Socket A Heatsink with Panaflo Fan - eBay (item 330237025077 end time May-24-08 05:10:09 PDT)

Used Thermalright SI-97 is one of the better XP coolers around, but your gonna have to pick it up used.

Zalman has one I've used before (But the 80MM version) and it did rather well, and New Egg still has it!

It's not quite 120MM, but 92MM isn't bad either!

Newegg.com - ZALMAN CNPS7000B-ALCU 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

HA!

I found a few MONSTERS!

Newegg.com - Thermaltake CL-P0024 Copper Cooling Heatsink - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

Says it fits Athlon XP. and can support 2x 80~90MM fans (You have to supply them, 92MM also will work I'm sure) but I would be sure it will fit on your board, Socket A can often be a bitch to get a big cooler on cause some of the designs get a bit crowded around the CPU socket.

Bad news..out of stock!

Keep in mind this is HEAVY! It would be REAL easy to crack the exposed CPU core on a AMD XP, you might want to opt for that Zally!

The other option is this Aero Cool, it's not the best cooler, but it's not awful either, I wasn't overly impressed by it on a AMD 64, but I was comparing it to the Big Typhoon! At 40$ it's rather pricy, but does come with a fan.

Newegg.com - AeroCool HT102 92mm Sleeve CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

The best is last...Big Typhoon! (120MM Fan Included!)

Newegg.com - Thermaltake CL-P0114 120mm CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

I've used them and they ROCK, and more so when you put a high flow fan, that's probably overkill for your 3200+ though.

Again..these are heavy and big, so don't be mad at me if they won't fit on your board because of clearance isssues, and the weight can crack a naked core like yours if your not uber carefull!

If you're going to get the Zalman 7000, get the 7000Cu-- I had a 7000AlCu, and it wasn't very impressive on a hotter-running chip (X2 4600+, S939 version) I ended up fitting it to a Duron 1.6 I sold to a friend (the board limited it to an OC of 1.8)

Well I ordered it today and told her about it. When she asked if it would be of help to her I said "If not, the fan should move enough air to push your tower over".

Thanks again guys

PS. Hows this for a high flow 120mm fan?

Size120x120x38mm
Air Flow174 CFM
Noise57.8 dba
Connector3 pin/ no RPM
RPM3800
ModelMD1238X12B

Mechatronics 120mm x 38mm High CFM fan # MD1238X12B

LOL..I seriuosly hope you didn't order that fan to go with the Big Typhoon!

The one that comes with it flows 54CFM, and the cooler is designed well enough on a stock CPU, you can almost get away with no fan! (At idle on my AMD 64 it often used to stop spinning!)

For a Non OC'd XP3200+, that cooler is a bit overkill to begin with, with 175CFM and nearly 60DB...your gonna go deaf!

I used a 80CFM 1200MM fan I had laying around with that BT cooler on a max OC'd AMD 64 at 3GHZ with 1.6v (Stock was 1.8GHZ)and it kept my temps in the high 40's full load, and at stock clocks, it never even thought about breaking 40c! (Idle was under 30c)

Right now on my AMP XP Mobile 2500+ I am using a Thermalright SP-97 (One of the first heatpipe coolers) with a 80MM Vantec Tornado (About 80CFM) running at a reduced 5v (Probably less then 40cfm)

With 1.8v and 2.5GHZ, my load temps never hit over 45c!

With the fan at it's full 12v, my CPU can run at 2.6-~2.7GHZ with 1.9~2v!

If I still had the hardware kit for my Big typhoon, I would probably throw it in place with that 80CFM 120, and see how it does, or possibly a 120CFM Delta screamer I have to see if i could get it over 2.7GHZ.

Seriously, if you ordered that fan to go with it, try and cancel it, your not gonna need it!

Na haddent ordered it (I have this thing about brushless) but I saw the CFM and couldnt believe it. Plan on letting it ride stock and see how it goes and then step from there if needed.
