Default Monitor advice please

Here in a couple of months, I'm gonna be making a few long term trips, one to arizona for about three months, then after that i should be going to korea for about a year. So heres the thing, i really don't wanna lug my tv around to anywhere that i will spend less then two years. So what I'm looking for is a monitor that i can use in place of the tv.

First, the important things are two digital connections, that way i can have my ps3 and my computer hooked up without having to jump to the back repetedly and switch them out. Also, i would like it to have component video, so i can hook my Wii up to it. Speakers are nice, but not important. Also, it doesn't need component, so long as there is an adapter out there that will switch component to d-sub. A composite adapter or back plug would be fine as well. Not really planning on using it as a tv past the ps3 and wii.

Also, i would like a resolution high enough to get 1080 just because. My budget is 800 and under, and i really don't want a monitor larger then 28" as that would defeat the purpose of me not wanting to lug big expensive toys to temporary locations.

Also, if the power is pal compatible that would be nice, but im pretty sure that my lodging will have dual power outlets(thats what my research so far says anyways). Thanks for reading my long ass post, and for any help.

Well, never mind i found a wii dsub connector, but i still would like some advice on what a quality brand monitor is. My requirements have gone to one dvi, one hdmi, and one d-sub. Speakers are nice but not necessary. So far i was thinking of this one or this one.

I like the gateway, cause it means i don't have to buy the d-sub connector, but it does mean i will have to lug around a stereo to plug in the sound for everything. Or i could just set up a pair of computer speakers and jump em all into that.

The asus allows me to circumvent all that though, as it already has speakers. I don't know though, does asus make quality monitors, i know i like their mobo's, but just cause a company makes high quality one thing, doesn't mean everything they make is top notch.

first doing some paragraphs would make your post easier to read

second i dont know much about Plasma or LCD monitor i'm still on an old ViewSonic 19" CRT
& i like it better then any LCD/Plasma monitors i always find them to have to much white in it & max refresh rate of 60 hz

anyhow i guess both will do just fine , the only thing i know is that you have to buy one with 8 ms or less over 8 ms it's not good but today they are all under 5 ms , i think?

Both monitors are TN panels-- that means lesser colour quality, and narrower viewing angles.

If you intend to use the monitor as a TV, you'll probably do a lot of off-axis viewing, and it will matter. My old monitor was a Samsung 206BW, which is a "good" TN model, and I was still swinging it around to keep it in line. My new one has a PVA panel, and it stays put. I can't reccomend the monitor to you, though, since it lacks HDCP and HDMI ports, and may, indeed, not include a PVA panel in the latest models.

To find a monitor with all three connections would be very hard. My current monitor is about as close as you are gonna get without spending enormous amounts of cash. I have a 24" westinghouse L2410N monitor. It has HDMI, VGA, Composite, S-Video, and Component. Right now I have had no problems with it.

The thing it is will run you back a little over $400.

Thanks for the advice, and the linky. Also sorry for any confusion, in my large, paragraph less post.

Anywho, I won't be using it as a t.v. Mostly just a computer monitor, and occasionally a game or movie monitor, which i will be at my desk when i do use it. In arizona, my room will be pre furnished with a tv, and in korea, i think they have bigscreen tv's in the dayrooms. Not to much off axis viewing gonna be going on with my monitors though.

And as far as refresh rates, the monitors i listed have a 2 and 3ms response times. Anyways, how can you tell if its a tn or whatever without a lengthy background check(as colors are sorta important, but not a deal breaker)

Edit: also, the monitors i listed say they are rated at a full 24bit color, with 16.7 million color display

Well if you see the monitor in person you can tell whether it is a TN or not becuase if you move to the very edge of a monitor a TN panel will distort colors but the MPVA will not distort.

I know you requested 2-3ms response but I do not notice any ghosting or lag at all when online gaming. You can't distinguish between the difference in miliseconds anyway.

If I had the money right now I would certainly get this monitor...

Newegg.com - Acer P243WAid Black-Silver 24" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor with HDCP Support 400 cd/m2 3000:1 ACM - LCD Monitors

Great value for money imo.
