Default I have that itch again **MoBo thoughts**

I'm getting the itch to buy yet another board and was wondering what you all thought would be a good move upward ( price is not an issue )
I currently own P35, 680i, P965, 790fx chipset boards ( the newest ones ). So what would be the next good chipset and a step up ?

Must have good O/C features
Must either run SLi or Crossifre
DDR3 is fine
Dont care about Audio
Only running one or two HDD's and one DVD
AMD or Intel is fine

have you tried any of the X48 boards yet? Don't know if they support SLI but i'm pretty sure they support Crossfire.

Dammit, between you and eascarface I can hardly get a word in edgeways in the hardware advice threads

Great suggestion, X48 is what I would have said. Bear in mind Nvidia's new 790i boards though - they're not quite as good as X48 but still much better than 780i, and obviously feature SLi.

Well if money isn't an issue then I have to agree with a X48 chipset. But the price of DDR3 memory is outrageous, I think I'd rather pay a kidnapping ramsom.

Once again the 790i boards are DDR3. And I don't think I can agree with the 790i being "much better" than 780i. My 780i board runs great and it is "much better" than the 680i now that I've fan'd it up properly.

I'd like to see you buy a 780i and use the money you saved on the memory to buy a couple 9800GX2's and go Quad-SLI :-)

This mobo is $100 cheaper than the 790i so that's even more 9800GX2 money :-)
But you'll want to replace the stock NB fan with one of these :-)

DDR3 prices are outrageous? Eh? Here in the UK you can buy 2GB of OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz for ?70. That's only thirty more than the fastest DDR2. And yeah, I know 790i boards are DDR3, he said that was fine.

Most of the reviews I've read of 680/780i boards have always said they've failed to live up to expectations. They're worth having for SLi, but there's a reason why most of the top CPU overclockers use Intel boards. Since the 780i is just a 680i with a few minor tweaks (ie Wolfdale support, triple SLi), it would be more of a sidestep IMO.

DDR3 prices have dropped, but the DDR3 memory to buy cost double. I don't understand why everyone always want's to buy the slower speed memory. Faster is better. And the fast stuff out now will be the slow stuff next month.

I never said an Nvidia chipset was going to be a better overclocker than the Intel. So I'm not sure what that rant was about. But that's ok, I still like ya :-) HeHeHe

What I did say was Quad-SLI :-) Why you ask? I answer Why Not. That's where I'd be spending all his mad money. It will keep him one step up on me as I'll be buying a third 9800GTX next week :-)

Point taken...apologies for the semi-rant, my GX2 had just died half way through a LAN game of Company of Heroes so I was a bit pissy lol.

Now I'm upset again. I wasn't happy about your temp's regardless of what those sites were reporting as temps. The 9800GX2 should run cooler than my old 7950GX2's and that means 80 and 90d temps are dangerous. The 9800's are a smaller die and the temps should be way lower. I'll look around but they never did come out with a aftermarket cooler for the 7950GX2's and they probably won't for the 9800 version either. You should try to sell that card after you RMA it and get a EVGA, BFG or an XFX card. They cost a few dollars more but you usually get a card with better quality controls in place.

Thanks to you buying my board I just bought the DFI LanParty LT X48, and although I haven't had a chance to play with it, it looks to be a very well built board. It was pricey but it supports DDR2 and my initial thoughts are it was well worth it!
