| I'm Wired!!! Until I was introduced to the Logitech MX700 I was a trackball guy. The MX700 was the first wireless mouse I owned and I fell immediately in love with it. It was comfortable, responsive, and battery life was great. Everything was great in the world for a long time until I was hit with the upgrade bug.
I purchased an MX1000 thinking that it had to be at least 300 better than the MX700. Right from the get-go the mouse didn't feel comfortable to me, not near as nice as the MX700 did. But, I stuck with it for over a year and really tried hard to like it. Finally I started to notice a little lag and a jumpy cursor. I moved the receiver around, turned off any wireless devices, increased the resolution, tried using different mouse pads, but it didn't help. Every time I noticed a little bit of lag it bothered the hell out of me so that mouse ended up going away.
Next, I purchased the Logitech G7 after reading some really good reviews about it. It did feel more comfortable than the MX1000 but the battery time wasn't real great. A few days of hard use at the most before you had to swap the battery out. I then started to notice some lag and cursor jumping with this mouse as well. It was during the current review I am working on that I finally said enough is enough. I was having a hell of a time making precise movements in PhotoShop and it was taking twice as long as it should just to edit a single photo. Screw this wireless crap.
I just purchased a corded Logitech G5 and I am back in love again. It is comfortable, extremely responsive, and the movements are as precise as a Hanzo sword. I was able to get it to exactly the weight that I'm comfortable with and it works on any surface I put it on. The only drawbacks are that the surface where your hand lies is not completely smooth and the forward/back buttons and mouse wheels are soft - you don't get a responsive "click" when you use them.
So, I haven't gone completely full circle; I started with wired trackballs, went to wireless trackballs, to wireless mice, and am now back to wired mice. I've got to tell you I am very, very happy with my new G5 and being wired again. |
