Default recommend me a water cooling setup?

I am interested in switching over to liquid cooling, but really have no experience with it. I'm not looking for anything real expensive due to the fact that I don't overcloc. I really want it just to quiet the machine down. I am running an Antec 900 case w/ Ultima 90 (92mm and a 120mm fan) on a C2D 6400, 7900 gtx ( hoping to get an 8800gt soon). I had bought a used Titan kit, but the holddown for the CPU block is missing. I could buy a new titan kit for just about what a new block would cost. What are the expert opinions here?

If your not overclocking, dont bother. Just go with a ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme if your looking for better temps, it'll probably do better then the titan kit.

My temps are fine with what I have now. Just can't stand the noise. And I guess I should rephrase my oc'ing statement. I would love to OC this thing, but every time I do, the system freezes up. Even at a low FSB setting, the machine will boot, be ok web surfing, using teamspeak things like that. When I go into a game, be it any one of the BF series games, I get a total system freeze up a few minutes in. I know it's not a temp issue, but can't track it down, so I just gave up. The last setting I tried was: 1200 FSB, 850 on the ram all at stock voltages and memory timings were at stock 5-5-5-15 settings.. Even increasing the voltage a bit didn't seem to help.

Gotta agree with Killert, you won't get a quieter system with w/c.

For example, the lack of a fan over your CPU results in less airflow over the power circuitry around the CPU socket, so to keep crucial motherboard components cool its highly advisable to make sure your case has decent airflow, which could mean adding another 1/2 case fans.

Plus you've got the noise of the pump (however quiet, will probably still be as audible as a 'silent' fan) and the fan(s) on the radiator to consider.

Trust me, Ive tried it, not worth it unless you're going for high overclocks.

like I stated in my last post, I would like to try to oc this system, but I'm having the problems stated. Plus I already have the w/c setup. It wouldn't bother much if I had to upgrade the pump or whatever to be able to run chipset coolers if I have to.

This sounds familiar. Do you have another thread going on about these issues?

A few months ago but really didn't get many responses. I just thought I would add it in here to point out part of the reason I want to try water cooling. I did try everyones suggestions in my other thread, but none of it helped.

Check this thread out:

Hiring an experienced overclocker - Overclockers UK Forums

Someone with a Q6600 and the same motherboard as you, I believe. They are having lots of problems trying to overclock. Additionally, someone else chimes in near the end who is also having similar problems.

Short version - your board and the Q6600 don't like each other
