Default Pondering getting a sound card for my new build...

Well.. I've never owned a sound card. I've always used onboard sound from my laptops, to my old PCs, to my current ASUS A8R-MVP32 Deluxe..

For my next build i'll be using a
EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

I've been thinking about getting
Creative FATAL1TY 3.5mm gold-plated Connector Circumaural Gaming Headset

Along with a sound card.. But i'm pretty unsure of what card to get or if they even make much of a difference...

Been looking at Creative labs sound cards..
Posibly - Customer Reviews for Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card

What do you guys think... Are sound cards worth it? Or is onboard sound ok.. I'll be using the new rig for gaming, music, and movies

People always told me that a separate sound card took the load off the motherboard and made your computer run faster.

But then I was also told that Santa was real for a long time.

That's a great looking headset, I like that the mic comes off for casual music listening, but does that mean it doesn't swivel up and down?

I haven't used a sound card since onboard sound became available. As for the dedicated card freeing up the mobo, I can't speak to that, but I would think it might free up some power for the CPU.

If you do decide to go with dedicated sound, dont forget to turn off the onboard sound lest you assume your sound card is DOA.

Well ill put in a vote for the X-Fi over onboard sound. Its certainly better than anything Realtek can muster and I love mine
