| tax return is here...time to upgrade. question is, what to upgrade? my rig is in my sig, what would you do? i plan on selling the parts i replace to further fund the upgrade and i'm starting with $500 cash. my plan as of right now: buy EVGA 780i mobo and Corsair XMS2 1066 memory. sell my 680i and current memory. pick up a 8800GTS PCIe 2.0 card. in june i plan to get a quad core cpu and a second 8800GTS with my kicker check. what would you do if you had my system and $500? | ||

| The only upgrade I see is the vid card, and even then I would recommend only going to the 8800GT. The CPU could use a quad core update, but that wouldn't gain you too much since you are already running your 6600 at 3.2. You look like you are sitting pretty good right now. | ||

| Sempr0n? | If you absolutely feel you have to upgrade, I would suggest: 1) Clock the nuts off the RAM you have, and run 5-5-5-15 timings. 2) Buy an Intel P35 or X38 board, as unless you intend to use SLi, there is no point in using an Nvidia motherboard 3) Buy a Q6600 or E8400 and clock it into the stratosphere. 4) Not really bother with a video card upgrade unless you are going to splurge big and go for a Radeon HD3870X2. But like BA says, you've got a pretty nice system already. Check out my upgrade/system build thread for a good list of components: http://forums.pcapex.com/hardware_ad...post1062221226 | |

Why not get a decent LCD monitor right now? It's something you can enjoy right away and use in the future for your system upgrades. I just picked up the Hanns.G HG281D 28" LCD at Best Buy for $550. It was great gaming with this on my SLI 8800 GT system last night. ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| been a while since i updated my sig as i have since returned my settings to stock. trust me, i don't want to spend the money if i don't have to. it's just that i only get this kind of "spending" money once a year. i was just trying to get a feel as to IF anything SHOULD be upgraded. it a multi-purpose rig, not a dedicated gamer. my wife uses it for internet/email and i use it for the same+gaming. i play BF2 and COD4 and plan on getting Crysis soon. if my rig will run crysis fairly well i will leave it alone till next tax season. maybe just get an extra gig of ram and an extra 320gig HD or something. | ||
