@Slaymate: Since both the boards I am talking about take DDR2, memory wasn't really a concern. I'm guessing you thought it was a DDR3 X48 board? I can get the 2X1GB of Crucial for $75.

Here is the board I am looking at DFI LanParty LT X48-T2R | DFI LP LT X48-T2R | DFI X48 DDR2 Motherboard | X48 Motherboards

@reflux: Now that just confuses me even more I was prepared to spend about $230 or so for the ASUS P5E, I guess what I am asking is that since I will most likely have this new setup for a while, will I be happier to spend a little more and get a DFI?

By the way, did you guys see the NB cooler on that DFI board?

Well it depends how much you trust DFI really. I kinda missed their whole era of dominance with the nForce/AMD motherboards, but from what I've heard they've got a very good reputation. Asus are pretty solid too....you just need to define a budget, and work out what features you want - ie WiFi, lots of SATA ports etc.

Well, I am using a 939 LanParty and although I have had some trouble with it, it has been a very nice board. It overclocks like none other, so that is sorta pointing me toward them again.

As for ASUS, I have a 939 ASUS board as well, and while it does OC almost as high as my DFI, it just seems a lot less user friendly in terms of BIOS options. I have been watching some other forums about the DFI X48 board, and everyone seems to be very happy with it's performance.

Keeping budget aside, basically I am looking for the options either board provides. I can't afford SLI or CrossFire, so that doesn't really matter to me. I know both boards will be stable, I just don't know if spending the extra cash is worth it.

I know I probably keep contradicting myself, but I do appreciate the advice! It's a tough choice!!

Well I spent ?130 on an Asus P5K last summer and it was an awesome board. I sold it to get a CrossFire Gigabyte board and I actually regret that now because the Asus had such a good bios compared to the Gigabyte. Basically, you just gotta look at the boards, read the reviews and decide what has the best BIOS, best features and best overclocking capabilities. In your price range, there aren't many lemons, so you should make a good choice whatever. But I'd be really interested to hear about how you find the DFI...I'm considering one for my next mobo.

Not sure what you mean about this part... Do you mean as in it's hard to find or what I think about it if I buy it?

Thanks for the advice. I will read some more reviews and make the decision soon. Right now I am leaning toward the DFI, simply because of the things I have read so far and my personal experience with them.

Yeah, what I mean is, if you were to buy it, I'd be interested to know what you think

With DDR2 prices the way they are, why not go 4 GB? 32-bit OS will take advantage of most of those 4GB.

I finally made up my mind and just went for it! I got the DFI LanParty LT X48 mobo, the Q6600 and the 2x1GB crucial tracer.

I haven't had much time to play with it, but damn this board is sweet! Keeping in mind I made the jump from a dual core socket 939 to this, my performance should be quite a bit better.

Thanks again for the suggestions guys!
