| I've decided that the 1945 computer needs little upgrade in hardware... I'm gonna keep the D945 CPU for a little while... But i want a motherboard that has 3 PCI-E slots... 2 for graphics, 1 for SAS controller I'm willing to spend 150-250 bucks on it... Also wan't it to be ready for 45nm... Should i go with P35 or maybe a nVidia chip? Also I'm not sure if to go with nVidia graphics or ATI... 8600 or 8800 vs 2600 or 2900 I will use my Seagate cheetah 147gb 15k SAS drive for OS 2x 320 GB sata drives for storage.... Probably 4 gig of ram... I am planning of Overclocking... Go ahead and throw yer thoughts at me, I'm open for all suggestions... //BeetleMan | ||

| Sorry to highjack your thread. I saw you had this: I will use my Seagate cheetah 147gb 15k SAS drive for OS And have to ask how you are running it. I just happen to have two of these, and want to run them in a RAID0, but am not finding much info on the Google. I have run SATA RAIDS on my boards before, no big deal, but is it as simple as getting a controller card and setting up the RAID? Again, sorry to highjack your thread. E | ||

| As far as what I've understood so far( still researching) the controllers use either PCI-E or PCI-X slot... The controller card comes with it's own memory(256mb) for added cache... You can connect SAS drives and SATA drives to the controller... and the cheapo card I've looked at so far, supports Raid 0 and Raid 1... Thats really as much as I know at this point.... | ||

| I'd go with an Asus P5K p35 board. It seems to be the common recomendation these days and preforms quite well. Plus its 45nm ready. Graphics card wise I'd stick to Nvidia. ATI's midrange solutions are a joke. Nvidia's arn't much better but they are faster. I'd probably try for a 320mb 8800GTS which ought to allow you to play up to 1920*1200 without AA without any problems. | ||

| Sempr0n? |
Yeah, those are sound recommendations. I personally have both an Asus P5K and an 8800GTS 320mb, and they are great pieces of equipment. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
