| Raptor's are optimized for server work, but since they spin at such a great speed and the access times are so small they make great drives in any system. Lot's of people run their OS on a Raptor and use another larger drives for storage and applications. The Barracuda is a much better cost to performance ratio than the Raptor and has the best warranty in the business. Look for the 7200.11 series if you go that route, or at least the 7200.10's. You're other option is the Western Digital Caviar SE 16 family. In some respects it is just as fast as the Raptor, although latency and access time still go to the Raptor. They come in 750 and Terabyte flavors. Outside of the Raptor, it's probably the fastest drive out right now, the new Barracuda's are yet to be reviewed widely. | ||

| Sempr0n? | Samsung's SpinPoint T HD501LJ 500GB drive is actually within a whisker of the speed of a Raptor, and is much bigger. Samsung SpinPoint T HD501LJ 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM It benefits from a much higher areal density than Raptors have, so it makes up for the slower spin speed. | |
