Default Core 2 Duo or Turion 64 X2?

Which of the two is better for a laptop running 64 bit Gentoo? I'm under the impression that the Core 2 Duo is better, but I would like to check. I would particularly like to know which is better in performance/price and power usage for processors of similar speeds.

If you are running Linux and not using processor intensive apps then your best price/performance/energy consumption value is the Turion.
No sense paying for something you don't need for your application.

What if I do need to run CPU-intensive applications a lot? (Which I might have to at times.)

I am guessing it would depend on the particular app, as well as the particular CPU in that laptop (assuming laptop due to the Turion).
Basically if you are doing heavy video editing and stuff along those lines a lot, then the C2D would be for you.
IMO, other than those scenarios and benchmark bragging rights, an AMD X2 can run most apps just as well.... better in a few instances.

Edit: For the record, I already have an AM2 rig and am in the process of building a C2D mATX rig and there are things I like a lot about both systems.
