Everex Laptop- Too good to be true??

I saw this on the newegg deal page for a while, and reading the reviews makes it sound like quite the deal...

Anyone had any actual experience with these? I love the full keyboard, I absolutely hate laptop keyboard layouts...

I personally wouldn't recommend it. I work in retail and we sell that model at work. Pretty good when it comes to specs, but we had problems with the system saying that the activation keys that the system brought were not valid. On one computer I can let slide, but we had two with the same problem. So like I said, personally I wouldn't go for it.

I'd hold off on it. I've got an HP laptop with almost identical specs which I'm very happy with. That being said I paid $750AR for it at CompUSA and I imagine that if you wait they'll run it again.

Exactly how good is the hardware for use with Gentoo?

you just need to strip the eye candy and wait for sp1.

me i am holding out on xp till dx10 games come along and force me to upgrade

But why use Vista at all when Gentoo can look just as good, performs better, is more configurable, and free?

Yeah. If I could buy it w/o an OS then I'd be happy to not have that cost added, but since that is pretty much not an option...
