Default PSP needs killer app

So the PS3 came out and included its launch megahit Resistance. The 360 just got gears of war and thats a major hit. The wii got zelda. That leaves the PSP. What is going to be the deciding game in the PSP war? Im thinking MGS Portable OPs will blow me away but do you remember that little game Gran Turismo? Where it that? I think sony needs to get in gear before this system just dies off. What do you think should be done with the PSP?

I think that Sony pushed the UMD aspect of it just a little too hard for my taste and as it turns out, it has quickly become the "Betamax" of gaming platforms. Sony needs to redouble their efforts on the gaming side of the house if they have any hope of saving the PSP from an agonizing death.

I think it's a huge mistake to push the UMD aspect as the UMD movies that are being sold are nearly as much as buying the DVD. So, why buy the movie twice when you can just buy a portable DVD player for $100 and have a screen size twice that of the PSP, plus you don't have to buy the same movie on another format?

The movie idea was flawed too considering you can simply play movies from the memory stick. I wonder what the camera and gps ad on will do for the console.

I already have a nice hand held GPS device. But I would like to see how Sony's GPS add on will run on my PSP. And for $40 bucks, thats cheap for GPS!

Socom 2 is looking good, but I agree, there is not a stand out game lately for the PSP.

And for Robs comment, the UMD movies are like the betamax's for sure, but the UMD games? no. I would like to see a redesigned PSP that uses memory cards instead of UMD's. Kinda like I already do...lol

The biggest problem with the PSP is not the fact that it doesn't have a killer app (though that doesn't help it's status at the moment), but the fact that most users are more likely to use the PSP for homebrew applications, which tends to lead towards piracy...

A company isn't going to develop games for a system that no one purchases games for. That's why piracy and sometimes homebrew (even though some of the homebrew things on the PSP are great) are never good. The homebrew scene is killing the PSP...developers won't make games for it...it's too expensive (compared to the DS)...nothing to get new users excited over it that don't care for homebrew

You said it perfectly. Why doesnt Sony open up some home brewing abilities but crack down harder on the pirated games portion. Granted, i am no programmer so what i said may be counterproductive but it would be good to see Sony loosen the reigns a bit. I dont homebrew, mainly because i went through several updates before i thought 'ohh, that would be cool to have'.

That would never happen, but it would be really cool
Anyway, the PSP really just doesn't have any selling points for me personally. It just doesn't have any good games I really want.

Problem is, you can be the best programmer in the world and your stuff will still get cracked. Code is Code, and its not perfect and never will be.
If it wasn't for homebrew I really doubt I would own a PSP. And NCXC is right about the homebrew leading to piracy. But as I stated before, its going to happen on every console and handheld system. Its something they can and will never stop (at least for now). And it is sad because it just hurts the gaming society! But I have to admit some of this homebrew stuff is wild on the PSP and other platforms, I just wish there was a way homebrew and the games can both live in perfect harmony???

You can only stop homebrew if you eliminate peripherals we all use. Everything on a gaming console must be proprietary for it to be unhackable. For the PSP its USB and the memory card. The XBOX 360 was hacked because of the dvd drive. If the PSP only had the umd drive with no memory stick it probably wouldnt be so hackable.
