Default PSP Borked

So, my PSP is semi-bricked. Electronically, it functions, but the UMD drive no longer works, and the external speakers are no longer functional.

My question is this: Can I get any use out of it? I understand most homebrew requires you to have downgraded firmware, and mine is currently at... 3.5? I think. And the only way I'd seen to downgrade the firmware is to use the original Lumines UMD, which, of course, I can't do.

If I can't get any function out of it as a unit, is there any chance of being able to use the LCD for future modding?

Thanks in advance!

the answer is the Pandora's battery. you can find it at QJ.NET - QuickJump Home - PlayStation Portable News - PSP Updates. youre gonna need someone with a already downgraded PSP. or i can do it if you also want that UMD drive fixed you can hit me up.

Holy crap, someone actually found and replied to my post in the gaming section. Praise be to whatever deity is responsible for tiny miracles.

Thanks a heap Zero. I might take you up on those offers when my wallet has some more girth to it . Recently (and sadly, I might add) traded in my modest collection of PSP games for next-to-nothing at Gamestop for a couple games for my new DS Lite. I actually miss my PSP, which I had been told by many Nintendo converts was impossible. It'd be nice to get it functional again.

wth you asked nintendo ppl for PSP help? no wonder you think its broken. so you gonna try the pandora thing? i think thats the best way to go for now, at least youll get some gaming functionality out of your PSP (provided you have a 2+gb card).

I think I might give it a try later on. What kind of prices are we talking to let you take care of it? Once I get my car running I'll give it a little more thought.

if youre just talking about flashing the psp, that should be easy to teach, but if you want the UMD drive fixed, you do realize i live out in the middle of the pacific in hawaii right?
