Default Maya rendering

Hey all, so I took an intro to Maya 8.0 class this past semester... and was doodling around today and this is what I came up with. Just modeled my mobo, ram, and videocard... and slapped on some quick textures. I think eventually, I'll model my whole computer, just for practice I suppose. Tell me what you guys think.

Course, I kinda goofed... modeled a PCI-e X800XT on an AGP mobo

LOL, no kidding! Actually, at first taking the class, I kept thinking, "Man I hate 3 dimensions! Where's the photoshop?!" But yeah, I'm definitely a n00b when it comes to 3D... but ti's still pretty cool At least I could make some sick textures with CS2!!!

Let me get a wireframe for you...

EDIT-

Not bad for your first effort, the wire frame looks pretty much spot on... but the textures look a bit strange
It's kinda like the "View Distance" is way off or something, it seems like all the textures should be pretty clear like the taller portions of it are.

I wonder if it's just the way Maya captures still images?

Are you talking about how the textures look kinda blurry? If so, I think it's the way Maya applies the textures... maybe I could bump up the resolution...

The ram and video card are crystal clear from a different angle.

Yes..exactly what im talking about!

I know from working with Alpha on his CFD stuff, what you see when it actually rendering looks much better than the screenies do.

Eh, I'm not to worried about the particulars like extreme detail at this point... I'm just having fun and playing around and getting to know Maya a little better. As we speak, I'm modeling the retension clip and a Thermaltake Sonic Tower to go on it.

Wow Jobi. Thats pretty good. I messed around with Maya 6 a couple years ago but it was pretty basic stuff nothing like what you're pulling off now. Kudos to ya man.

Here's the latest render with the sonic tower... but I'm not too happy with it... the tops look silly. I tried making each individual fin on the heatsink, but the poly-count was way too high (somewhere around 40,000 polygons!) and I couldn't get them to cast shadows properly and look good. So I just made a couple cylinders and textured them.
