Default Help with Limited Palletes in Photoshop

I recently made a folding sig for PCA, and while it looks damn nice for 9 colors, (if i do say so myself..) but I don't like how I got it down to 9 colors...I simply made it as if it were going to be in full RGB and then chose to do the "Optimize for the Web" and then limited down to 9 colors, most of which I hand picked, but still, I'd rather have some direct control over the colors in the actual editing of the graphic, is there any way to still work with layers, while only using 9 colors?

As far as I know... I don't think so. I helped Grumblestiltskin with a folding sig once, and I simply took his RGB .jpg image and converted the mode in Photoshop to "Index Color" (Image > Mode > Indexed Color) From there, you can select how many colors you want the image to have.

Unfortunately, when you Change the color mode to Indexed Color, you also flatten the image and can no longer use layers. Are you wanting to edit the layers while the image is still 9 colors?

I picked that "my mood" thing last night as a joke, how ironic it's actually true right now...

Yeah, it kills me that it won't let me work with layers with the limited pallete...maybe another program...but that would suck learning something else just for one thing...

Well, you could work with the image as an RGB document, then convert it to Indexed Colors just to export the .jpg, but not save the file as Indexed Color. Get what I mean?

This is what you do.. you save each layer as a seperate image with the color you wish to be indexed.. then you covert those image files into layers.. and then organize the layers..
