Default Rebel XT problems

Hey there everyone. I am not so sure if I am in the right forum right now, but since this is the graphics area, I am assuming that it is. If its in the wrong place, please move it for me.

Anyways, some of you may remember back in December when I purchased my Canon Rebel XT. Works great, love it, but now I am starting to have some problems with it.

I noticed that there was a little bit of dirt on the sensor one night by doing a test (take a picture of something white at f/16 and do photoshop autolevels) so I cleaned it according to the instructions; the little squeeze blower thingy to blow out the dust. Not sure of the correct terminology, but it helped out a lot.

Well, tonite I was taking some shots outside in the dark and realized when I brought the pictures onto my pc that there were a few red dots on it. After several swears at it i opened one up into photoshop and saw that it wasnt just one one picture, its on most of them.

Now, I attached a cropped version of the red dots i see on a white background. Here is a link to a full picture (not 56k friendly) taken outside of my house in the dark. I circled the dots.

So, ultimately my question is, do you think i have bad photo pickups or do i need to get it cleaned?

Thanks for your help!

PS Long time no visit :-)

What about contacting Canon directly... did you try that? It could be possible that the photo chip has gone bad. How noticable are the dots on a full-sized image?

I contacted canon once, but since I am not using one of their lenses, they wouldnt help me. This is a fullsize picture http://www.mikerocklewitz.com/nightpicred.jpg although it is slightly optimized....

They are small, but the point is, they are there...

Suggestions?

I had a similar problem with my Minolta XTC. It cost me nearly what I paid for the body of the camera to get it cleaned. My issue however, is that there is no decent camera shops in the area and the so called camera shops just send them off for service and then mark up the cost. Hell, I could do that. If you have a "Real Camera Shop" in the area, NOT A RITZ PHOTO SHOP (Same thing as I indicated earlier), they should do it real reasonably. It was debris on the mirrors in my case. Probably debris on your digital pick up. Pics look real similar.

Well i took a few pictures in better light conditions and it seems to be a lot better. Still not perfect though. I purchased a green clean sensor cleaning kit (has a mini vacuum) so hopefully that will help when i get a chance to use it.

Thanks for your advice

Mike
