hey everyone, i'm working on a modding site, it's something like hotornot.com for computers. I'm not trying to spam for it, it's not even finished, but i wanted to get some opinions on the site so far. If you get any errors while poking around dont be suprised because like i said it's not finished. so if you'd like to enlist in my site then i'm happy to have you, but post back here and tell me what you think, if theres any changes you would like to see or enhancements made then just lemme know. The site has most of it's functionality done, i plan to keep adding some things, also i plan to make things more graphical as well. if you get any errors at any time then lemme know, a lot of it is still untested which is why i'd love to have some people join, so that they can at the same time test out the site. you might have seen this posted on a few other forums, i'm really trying to reach as many people as i can to demo it out for me. and i'm really not trying to spam, i'm just looking for some genuine feedback from the right kinda people. modders are hard to reach in a bulk number so thats why this has been on a couple forums already, but i assure you this isn't spam or a selfless promotion. I'm really just looking for some genuine feedback on the site and it's stability.

The forum menu's are hard to read.
The white writing on grey background is too hard on the eyes. (Yea I'm Gettin Old)

And I'm not trying to knitpick but there are some spelling errors.
Not that I'm any good at proper spelling myself.

You need to do something with the background, That color isnt cutting it. Its too plain and broad..Although I dont know what else to suggest..

Or its something with your tables with the info, maybe they need to be a lighter/Darker color?

the graphics are actually something i plan to cmpletly revamp once i'm happy with the level of functionality.

The forums make as much sense as a blindfolded Aquafina vs. Dasani taste test. I would suggest phpbb or something.

honestly, whats so confusing about the forums? they have the same structure as phpbb or vBulliten, they have forum categories with sub forums, then within the sub forums are the individual threads.

and as far as using a thirdparty forum... i really dont want to. lol lemme elaborate a bit. I want this site to be done with fully custom coding, i dont want to use thirdparty coding as a matter of integrity. i know mine at the moment isn't nearly as powerful as phpbb but give me some time and i'll bring it up to par. i honestly view this decision to use all my own coding as a good thing. i know it's not some easy shortcut, but i really do feel that it's a better move

When I do web design I normally try to limit the number of fonts and font styles that I use. I counted at least 4 different fonts just on the front page.

You are on the right path, just continue to tweak it.

Welcome to PCApex! Sorry about the rough start... but we get a LOT of stuff that's considered spam.

First impressions on the site as of Monday July 10:
The colors look pretty good to me. Top graphics are pretty good, the fonts are sans-serif which I like. I would take a little time and make some nice graphical table elements (edges, corners, shadow maybe?) I think it would give the page a much more professional look. You could even just use different-colored table borders like we do here.

Spellcheck, spellcheck, spellcheck. If I hit a website with more than two typos, I immediately doubt the validity of the writer. I know some people think that's excessive, but in college some profs will give you an "F" if you have one typo on a term paper. Make sure that's gone before it is considered "live."

Forum:
The colors are unreadable on my computer. I'm sure you're going to change the category headers to blue, right? Obviously still some formatting issues, but you did say it was a work in progress, so I'm looking forward to what you're going to do with it. As a possibility, would you consider having the main categories connected? It looks strange with each category in the forum completely separate from each other. Maybe remove the huge footers and join the sections. I personally think it would look better that way.

Connecting the main categories definatly isn't a problem. and yeah i know those forum graphics suck, lol. i mean when i made them they seemed alright for a temp thing but eh... i ended up makin them at work, and i work mostly out in the sun, so i made them on my laptop with limited visibility. Haha they seemed good at the time, then i loaded them on my desktop where i could see them clearly and was a bit suprised. And yeah i do plan to definatly touch up all the graphics. i think i might start that today, with the table formatting and all. Once i finish most the site coding i plan to give it a new temple, or make an option for different skins, i'm not totally sure yet, either one wouldn't be to difficult though.
