While chatting on AIM one night my good friend SpikeShot asked me to make him a new flash sig. I gladly accepted. He sketched and sent me what he wanted for his sig.



I started out by making the Y connector in the corner. I used an X Shape, rotated and stretched it.

Then I added the long piece of tube across the front and stretched it till I got a shape that looked similar to the drawing.

The next thing I did was create the other hose going into the Y. I applied a slight curve then merged all of the layers into one.






I applied a few filters to create the effect of the tubing.





The next thing I had to do was make the tiny raised parts on the Y connector to make it look real. I used a small rectangle with a gradient to change the shade of green. I copied the rectangle 5 times and changed the angle of the rectangles to go with the Y connector.



I also added the line in the back and the front to give it a 3-D look. I also applied the same filters to make it look like 1/2 inch tubing.






Next up I created the bubble. To do this I took the same shade as the tubing and changed it just a little. I erased a little piece to create the shine and then applied the Plastic Wrap filter. Now with all the Photoshop work out it was time to get working on the Flash part of the sig. It was about 40 Layers when done and 150 Key frames. I imported the background tube followed by the Y connector and tubes. I imported and moved all the bubbles throughout these two lines before I added in the final tube. This was probably one of the hardest parts because I had to move the bubbles a few pixels and then creat a new frame so that it would follow the tubing correctly. This had to be repeated for every bubble so anywhere from 20 to 70 frames for each little bubble. You can see some of the results here


First Draft of Sig

The last thing I had to do was add in all the specs of Spike's computer. To get the fade in and fade out effects I started out using 25% opacity bumped it up to 50% then 75% and finally 100%. Then I did the exact opposite to create the fade out. All in all it was a fun project. I worked probably 12 hours total on the whole sig. The hardest part was definitely the animation of the bubbles. Looks good man. If I ever get tired of doing my own sigs Ill be sure to ask you, although I know you dont have the time.... Well if I ever get CS source I'll check out the server. Keep up the good work.
