College game gover project: Thoughts?

Hey people. Need some thoughts on a finished PS job for a college project. We had to design wither a CD, Game or other product cover along with an advertising poster and net design for the box.

I chose my all time favorite Red XIII from Final Fantasy VII Advent children and had a play around with some screens form the trailers to the movie (for the firey background). I also used a hand drawn vector of Red for the Tatoos and the XIII symbol. I then took the usual shots of an Xbox cover and hey presto.

I would lose the small dog in the foreground. It's a visual distraction - my eye went "what is that ... oh"

Then you could make the face shot bigger

UPDATE - This is my second attempt, did as suggested...this time i rotated the flame background 90CCW, and mirroed the first 1/4 of it so a sence of symetry could be seen. Any better?

Now he looks cut and paste. First one looks better, but like stated the forground doesnt look good and without it, it seems to plain.

Yeh...unfortunately in my stupidity, I flattened the first attempt so Red cant be used again. Ill try again tonight and try to blend him in better. I had to creat the ends of his feet and mohican hair becuase the vector I take them from is cropped so you dont see them. Shame really.

Yah feet are really messed up. One is like 4 times larger than the other. Also try to think about what the game would be about, that may help to make a cover for it.

I'd say it looks as good as anything sittin on the shelves at Best Buy right now - nice job!

Apart from the cut-out of Red not being perfect, I think you might be able to experiment with transparecy a bit to make him fade out from the fire somewhat. Also I think the title of the would be game can stand out more, either by making it bigger or adding something else to make it stand out for itself.

Other than that, I think you have a solid idea that just needs a little trimming around the edges!
