Default Photoshop ImageReady help..

alright im fairly new to ImageReady, actually I just started using it yesterday. I wouldnt say im an amateur in Photoshop, I guess more of a novice, I mainly use it for little stuff and even open it up and make stuff when I'm bored.. but recently I've found the desire to learn ImageReady and I like what I've been able to come with so far.. but I only have one problem.. I cant seem to get more than one flash effect working in the same signature Im trying to make.... I will explain....

do you see how in this one ive made it look like it is raining?

and do you see in this one how ive made it look like the transparent bar is scanning the sig?

ive been killing myself trying to figure out how to put both effects in that sig, but everytime i put one the second one always overrides the first and i end up having an extra frame that i end up having to delete because it messes everything up.... can anyone please help me? if you dont understand my problem please tell me where u are lost and ill try to clarify it up. thanks!

Whenever I'm doing a complex animation (and I haven't done many), I'll create the document in Photoshop and make the frames one at a time. It's tedious compared with tweening, but it lets you have fine control.

The process goes like this:
  1. In Photoshop, create/open the image to animate. Then, create a new document with the same pixel dimensions.
  2. In the original image, select the whole canvas (Ctrl-A), and do Edit / Copy Merged (Ctrl-Shift-C)
  3. Select the new document and Paste (Ctrl-V) in what you just copied.
  4. Move back to the original image and adjust it for the next animation frame (moving/showing/hiding layers, etc.).
  5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each frame of the animation.
  6. Select the new document (the one you've been pasting in) and press Ctrl-Shift-M to jump to ImageReady. Your image will be carried over automatically.
  7. In the Animation pallette (the one that shows all the frames), click the little sideways arrow on the right to show the Animation menu. Select the "Make Frames From Layers" menu option.
  8. Adjust the timing of the animation and make any final adjustments before saving it as an animated .gif.
Does this help at all?

Sounds like a problem with what your are setting as "visible". When you go frame by frame with the gif watch those littles eyes on the layers box, you might notice them getting messed up or whatnot. It looks like you could just enable both of the effects on each layer. If you still need help hit me up or send me the psd file and I could take a look at it.

The image isn't there.. the site is down. Try hosting it on ImageShack.

No problem. You will run into this problem alot when you start dealing with a huge number of slides. When making a complex gif you need to really pay attention to your visible layers otherwise you might mess one up. It is terrible because you could be 50 layers into a sweet gif and you realize layer 24 is messed up, well most of the time you have to start from slide 23 to correct the problem. We need a link to the new sig now..

*is it just me or imageshack promoting popups now*

imageshack doesnt allow me to host my .gif since its too big a file..
and yea post_break i hear ya, i got over 75 layers in that one sig since i had to make a new layer and frame for everymovement that the transparent bar moved down, and then i added 5 different rain layers to give it a more realistic moving look.. soon as i can get a hold of a friend who has his own domain i will post it up and maybe you can gimme your idea, still a newbie to this whole ImageReady flash stuff tho!

Looks cool, like you put a lot of work into it. But dang, a 4MB sig...

If you're getting into animations, Macromedia Flash is much more powerful than ImageReady, and it yields much smaller file sizes too. If I were going to pick one of the two to learn, I'd go for Flash. Just something to look into!

lol i know... its HUGE for a sig..

yep... i hear ya man, its just that im so used to PS ( the layout, buttons, i know my way around pretty well) so i couldnt help giving ImageReady my best shot.. im def going to be getting into Macromedia Flash, in the very near future for the two reasons you listed, its much more powerfull with animated .gifs since it is software made particulary for that reason, and the fact i dont want to have files unneccessarily so big..

thanks for the feedback brother!
anyone else have something to add? constructive criticism is always welcome!!

Make it a smaller size as 4mb sucks for anybody on 56k or dsl.
