| AutoCAD is a command line-based program. It's a pain to learn at first but it's in my opinion the easiest to get good at. I have been doing it for 5 years, after a while you don't forget the commands when you have typed them in so much.
The difference between AutoCAD and something like Varimetrix VX (which their headquarters is right down the street) is AutoCAD is designed for making stuff like houses, integrated circuit layouts, and mechanical assemblies. It sucks for things with complex curvatures like car bodies. Verimatrix VX could do complex curvatures and all the stuff AutoCAD can do, however VX does it in about 1/10th the time and using 1/10 of the commands AutoCAD takes. VX is more mouse oriented, AutoCAD is command-line based, and also uses a mouse, but you could draw an entire car without using a mouse in AutoCAD if you wanted. AutoCAD is a good program for beginners in the CAD industry, as well as 3D modeling in general.
The only downside to AutoCAD in my opinion is the render engine sucks.
Here's a little update, did a little more airbrushing to make it perfect. |
