I've been using Dr.DivX myself as well lately. Seems to do a great job and easy to use.

I've used TMPGEnc to create VCDs with very good results. The free version is all you need for MPEG Layer 1. You have to register if you want to encode MPEG Layer II after the initial 30 day trial. So, I guess the question is are you trying to create a standard VCD or an SVCD?

If you need more info and resources Doom9.org is a very good site.

Are you going from divx or xvid to svcd? Or are you ripping off of a dvd?

Yes, flask mpeg is the best. if i remember correctly you actually have to pay for the rest of them. quite frankly being the pirate that i am that doesn't seem all to appealing to me. why do you want VCD? why not SVCD? VCD looks like bootleg K-mart VHS video tapes. Pretty crappy picture indeed. if you use svcd you can get laser disc quality, though you will only be left with I think 74 min of space on a cd, so you lose six minutes for quality big deal right? anyway... the big problem here is that your video is becoming off sinc, or at least i think you said that, that is probably a problem with your codec. I have that problem with my divx codex every now and again you can easily fix it by reinstalling the codecs, if you want to do it the right way and configure your codecs go here: http://www.vcdhelp.com

If you want a good read i would definitely say check out that site or this one: http://www.divxdigest.com

I really don't feel like being yelled at for posting stuff I shouldn't so I am going to stop while I am ahead and say If you really want to know everything remember the name Captain Dave Smoke 'ems.
