video croping

quick question

I have some video witch require cropping, what is some good (or at least ok) and preeferabley free software I could use for that

Do you mean video editing or for playback. By that I mean are you cropping a home movie or something like that or are you watching a letterbox DVD on a widescreen and only filling a portion of the screen?

not quite, I mean software witch can crop a video so that onley the part you want remains

mencoder, which comes with mplayer, can transcode audio and video, and apply filters during, such as scaling filters and cropping filters.

thanks but a command line program is fine for re encodeing or black bar removeal but it seems impossiple to use when trying to get a paticular peace of a video cut out sence I cannot see how I could possibley get the right numbers

I am gong to lern more and try to get it but somethng with a gui would be nice or perhaps some tips

perhapse you could output a few frames which interest you (with relevance to what you're interested in cropping) to jpegs or pause the video and take a screen shot. then you could open those pictures in an image editor and use that to figure out the coordinates

Im not sure how well that would work; it's just a thought
