I've been playing around with Photoshop this morning trying to work out a decent wallpaper and this is what I came up with. I'm not entirely happy with it, but I'm not entirely sure why. What do ya'll think?

I'm no photoshop expert, but I can comment on the image ... looks like the ripple effect you have in the center is interfering with the text a bit, so maybe that's what is bugging you?

Hmmm....I don't wanna sound harsh, but your structure, form, placement and image hierachy are all a bit off. There's far too much going on in this image, which gives the viewer absolutely no focal point. I like the tagline at the bottom though - "the ordinary doesn't stand a chance".

You need to plan out a hierachy here, so that it looks tidier and more focussed. Shove the project text elsewhere, make less of it. Think about the KISS principle - Keep It Simple Stupid. Perhaps choose a more relevant background image; ie one that relates to your concept tagline, for example something powerful in nature or mechanics? Try not to make it look too derivative as well.

Also, if this is a background for your machine, where do you keep your icons on your desktop? Because one pet peeve I've always got is people putting relevant text / images where I know my icons are going to be (left hand side).

Yeah, that's better. I'd move 'PC Apex' down a bit though, to give it some breathing space

there is no contrast between th text and the background...also super simple fonts like that dont usually look good on wallpapers cus people are looking for somethig thats really eye catching and exciting...

i like that ripple spinny thing..but it may not work with the cityscape behind it

Font isn't doing anything for me either and I also think the ripple detracts from the background image somewhat.
Not too bad overall though.
