Hey pimps and pimpettes,

Got a quickie for nayone who knows a bit about WinLite.

Just installed a slimmed install of Win XP on my girl's craptop. Was taken from my genuine XP Home disc, got the real Key andeverything like that.

Well the install went fine, i ' nuke and boot'ed the HDD, full format and then install and it seems to be running pretty nicely. Hit a slight problem though - went to install WMP11 and when it tried to validate my copy of windows it started warning me i might be the victim of piracy / fraud etc! lol

Apparantly that install of Windows is not Valid?

Any idea why?

I havnt been able to get it online yet so windows isnt activated yet - could that have something to do with it? Quite annoying to be honest! lol


Anyways, any help wouldbe appreciated

This is the classic grey area of ethics in the technology world.

I'm assuming the key you're using is from the craptop and not the one issued with your XP home disc you slipstreamed as that's the only scenario I can see having a fit.

You have a valid key - but that slimmed down OS is made from a disc that wasn't released with that key so it's having a fit. So do you redo the slim fast OS diet with the crap-top's OEM install disc, or do you bypass the validation check? Only you can answer that question.

I get what you are saying... but to add fuel to the puzzle fire...

The key is the one issued with the disc i made the winLite from :s

Do you think its got anything to do with the fact it hasnt been online / activated yet?

Nah it's not because you havn't activated it yet. The only way you'll ever see that stupid little star is if you have a pirated (or suposedly pirated) copy of XP. The only message you would see if activation was a problem would be the dumb little keys asking you to activate. Just bypass activation ;]

if your time and date are not set correctly you will get that message but only after you have connected to the internet. I know its not your problem but just throwing that out there

I've got a slipstreamed Dell XP running on my laptop, and it validates fine, it just won't activate. And that's with the Dell CD key. So I have to hack the activation, and then everything's fine and dandy.
