| This site will run you thru the list of services that are reasonably safe to turn off. Stops some headaches and frees up alot of resources http://www.blkviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm | ||

| The "Bubbles" John is speaking of are called tooltips, not the "highlight new programs" feature of WinXP, Rafiki. To disable ToolTips in Windows XP: 1) Open the Registry Editor 2) Navigate to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop. 3) Double-click UserPreferencemask and change its value to 3E 00 00 00. 4) Close the Registry Editor and restart Windows. | ||

| Sell your PC, and buy an Apple. Okay, just kidding. I started getting those pop-up ads even when I had no browsers running. It all started after installing Morpheus. Anytime my internet connection was active, a pop-up would come up even with no programs running telling me that "people could be hacking my computer", etc. TweakXP is a good program to have, you can also load windows into memory with that...but you'll need 1GB of memory (recommended) to do that. | ||

| the messenger popups is a service. go to start>run and type services.msc then scroll through the list until you see a service called "Messenger" right click it, go to properties, hit "stop" and then where it says "automatic" change that to "disable". viola! No more windows pop-ups. | ||

| Well, for loading Windows XP into memory, it will run much faster if you have mucho RAM installed on your computer. With RAM prices so cheap nowadays, people are doing it simply because they can. I know guys use to load Quake or whatever online game they were playing using a virtual RAM drive...but that was back in the days so I'm not sure what they are doing now. It was kind of a pain, because you had to drag folders back and forth. | ||

| You want windows to load into your memory if you have 1GB+ ram. I have page file disabled and registry hacked to disable windows from recreating the pagefile, instead loading all of windows into the memory. At startup, 370MB in use with just trillian and firewall running. ![]() | ||
