Default windows xp login screen

how do you get rid of the login screen that comes up with windows xp that asks for a user name password.

I don't know how i made it come up, but i can't figure out how to make it go away. does anyone know what i need to do to get this login box to disappear so the computer will load into windows with a password being entered?

Try going to the Control Panel, User Accounts.
Then click to change your Account, and to create password. Just clear the password box, and leave it blank and save.

Think that might fix ya up if I remember right.

also, since i am almost sure this is has something to do with the properties such as file and print sharing etc. do any of them need to be there except for the tcp/ip one??

What ultimate goal is to have several computer connected through a switch (linksys router w/8 port switch) i have two others that have been recently formatted and see each other fine. The switch came with a cd to run in the computer to configure it, i didn't think it was nessary, does anyone know if it is or what is on the cd?

Tweak UI has it, go to the "Login Section", autologin, and stuff like that. And it's a really good idea to have some sort of password

Not sure then guy. I had a password on my account for awhile, and did that to by-pass the logon screen. Maybe try setting a new password, then go back after logging on and clear it off.

I'm sure there's an easier or more proper way to do it, but it worked for me when i took my password off.

jhoop. Download Powertoys for Windows XP....there is a Login Section that allows you to place your Username and Password in memory so you NEVER see the login screen again. Just make sure the Show Admin Account is unchecked.

Thats what I'm talking about. An account with no password will just load into Windows without a Logon Screen. Or go JC's route and use a password with Tweak set to Autologin. It will bypass the screen also, or at least load without you typing in anything.

As for the CD, just pop it in and cancel any install, then explore the contents to see whats on it.

Two ways to fix this jhoop2002:
1. Start>Control Panel>User Accounts>Click "Change An Account">Click Your Username>Click "Remove Password"
2. Use TweakUI ( Direct-Download Link ) then Start>Program Files>Powertoys for Windows XP>TweakUI for Windows XP and navigate to "Logon" then "Autologin" Then set password, Apply>OK>Reboot .

Hope this helps

I would STRONGLY reccomend using #2, so you can protect settings with a password, no password=big security threat

i have found that if you try to use autologon without haveing a password specified, windows will automatically insert some garbage there when you try to boot up and force you to have to clear it out before it will continue, so make sure you specify a password, even if its the number 1

i'm gonna try the tweakUI program because just simply not having a password doesn't work. I don't have a password! When the box comes up it asks for a username and password, default username that comes up with the box is Administrator and then click ok, I DON'T ENTER ANYTHING INTO THE PASSWORD BOX, it is blank.

You really need to set up a User as an Admin. Then use the Powertoys Program (which is tweak ui). It's not good to use the Admin as your main account.

The 'no password' trick USED to have you autologin, however a new patch from windozeupdate disabled that "feature". You have to revert to setting the autologin=1 in the registry - either using powertoys or just plain ol' reg hacking...I forget the key though...wait a sec...I'm at work so I don't have access to an XP box, but isn't there something in User Accounts control panel that says 'disable welcome screen' or something like that??

you can use the welcome screen and then also fast user switching, but also in user accounts I have three accounts admin, me, and then guest, and i can't get rid of the extra admin account (i have an admin acct)
