| Apex Advanced Techie | When I look in processes in the task manager I have 4 svchost.exe running all of the time. 1 says it's a network service, 1 says it's a local service and 2 say system. one of the system ones takes up 17,700 k of memory usage. The wierd thing is that I just reinstalled Windows XP Pro and I have more of them running then I did in my last install of XP Pro. Anyone know wtf all these svchost.exe's are? Thanks. Joe | |

| I have four running... a quick run of MaxMem cuts down their ram usage though... www.analogx.com it's under system tools or whatever. ![]() | ||

| According to Black Viper's service guide, they are universal plug and play, windows image acquisition, and a bunch of other stuff. Half of them aren't needed though. Go to http://www.blkviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm for all sorts of service stuff | ||

| Yes it does... I've been using it since the compaq days when I had 64MB of ram... it's a great utility. It's part of the reason I could essentially keep my windows box from restarting ever... because the ram gets loaded up and that's why it gets so sluggish after many days. ![]() | ||
