Im not sure where to put this so Ill put it here and in hardware..anyway I built a new rig from older stuff for my GF over the last week...its got a VIA 600 processor and Im not sure what brand motherboard (im @ school now)...anyway when I tried to load XP onto it it kept saying that various files were corrupt and it couldnt load...mmmkay....CD is fine...even tried MY cd that i used for my computer...same thing....anyway I load 98 on it and it works but freezes during detecting hardware...then upon loading up the hard drive starts clicking...so im like great...bad HD...no biggie...I need bigger one on my comp so Ill give her my old one...so I do...as A test I keep MY copy of XP on my old drive and try to load into it on her rig....i get a blue screen saying some error uccored with a file...ok...i think....maybe I cant do it like that for some reason..so I get her copy of XP out and try to load it...I get an error saying it cant read from the cr-rom...pull the disk out...put it back in...reads fine...gets 50% done and says "paged file in non paged file sector" im like WTF....so I give up...put 98 back on it....works good for a few restarts then I get a registry error...re-load 98 and it locks up when im loading it...do it a third time and it works ok....copy a bunch of MP3's to the HD and when i play them they crackle like a scratched record...so I delete them..and re-copy them....now their fine...in the mean time I get a few illegal function calls...blah....re-start and get the registry error again??? WTF...also when I go to connect to the NET the modem will click on and then off after dialing...not waiting for it to connect or anything...it worked fine in her old rig???!!!! Also the HDD light on the mobo (the pins for the case light) dont work...theres no power there no matter what....I tried 2 different CD-ROMS to load from..same errors both times...i KNOW my hard drive is good...memory is new...and all the cards worked fine in her old rig...

So i give up...I think it has something to do with the MOBO casue thats the only part I got used...everything else is either new...or i KNOW works (like my HD)...XP wont load right and 98 crashes all the time...my CPU temps are about 90degF...not overclocked or anything...I have a NEW mobo on the way that Ill try....but does it make any sence to you guys???
