Mine was never listed in Add/remove programs. Try this: In My Computer, right-click your C: drive. Go to properties, then click disk cleanup. Click the more options tab. The first heading is Windows Components, click clean up... It should give you a list of Windows components that can be removed.

EDIT: I'm a retard. I forgot you can get to windows components directly from the Add/remove programs in Control Panel, though the above way works also.

If the program you want to remove isn't listed, you might have to edit your sysoc.inf file. It's supposed to be in the \WINDOWS\INF folder, but mine wasn't, so you might have to search for it. Entries that Windows wants to hide from being removed have the word "hide" in them, like this...
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7
if you want them to show up in the add/remove programs you just remove the "hide" part, like this...
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7
Then save. They should now show up in add/remove programs & be easy to get rid of.

Hope this helps.

if you don't have sp1, go to your console "mmc" ;services, messenger, and you can disable that, and some of the other things you really don't need.

juz go in program file and rename the folder named "messenger" to somethin else, or delete it altogether like i did. The program wont be able to load then. Seems the only way to stop messenger on some systems.

FUBAR - If you delete/uninstall Windows Messenger; Application sharing, Remote Assistance, and Whiteboard likely wont work, so just do this:
Start»Run»Type: "gpedit.msc" Without quotations then follow the selection tree like so: Computer Configuration»Administrative Templates»Windows Components»Windows Messenger Right click each option's properties and enable the program restriction's for both.
If you dont mine not being able to use Application sharing, Remote Assistance, and Whiteboard, then use XP Antispy and disable it permanently.
Mess.be for the latest stuff for MSN Messenger...

MightyThor - Glad to help
...TheOutcast is no longer from packet loss so I guess your from Minnesota?
FUBAR - Its not just you that does not have it in Add/Remove programs, it doesnt show there for anyone....NoSlak you must have either Leaked SP2 which has complete Messenger removal built in or you removed MSN 5.0 (Which DOES show in Add/Remove)

I agree Outcast...the add/remove feature for messenger leaves alot to be desired. It will still open when you use outlook on most machines...

The Screen Savers ran a segment on disabling it.....

I did as well (Disabling it) but my Outlook took about 30 seconds to open after doing so. But this just got rid of it and now Outlook opens even faster now then before (opens in about 1 sec where it took about 5-10 sec to open when Win Mess was there).
