DOH! Overtweaked!

I decided to try take my PC to the next level by editing my services, adding and subtracting strings in my registry, overclocking both my Video Card and FSB...

Life was beautiful. My machine was actin' like I just attached jumper-cables to it's ass! It was sweet!

Then after a restart... my video is choppy as hell, my visual styles won't load... certain programs refuse to run...

I have overtweaked. Now I get to step backwards and try to figure out what the hell I did!

*sigh* I'll post a deal on some serious XP tweaking when I get back to stable...

Yeah... it'd be nice to know what "services" you can disable... I've been meaning to cut the fat for a long time, but I dunno which ones to disable.

Hmm last time I had risky fun I wound up in the hospital with a broken arm and a three inch gash that was an inch deep on my knee. I'm not looking forward to that kind of fun anytime too soon...

Last time I used the Black Viper website, I went too far also. My system stayed stable but I would lose my internet connection if I was idle for 30 minutes or more. And the dang computer would not re-establish a connection unless I rebooted. Major PIA. I ended up doing a clean install after a mobo change and haven't tried it since.

Hmmm, I may start playing with it again after the race.

Yeah, just adding those reg patches is quite handy, I used the gameing one myself, I now get ~1450 in 3dmark2k3. My specs are in my sig, except I have to edit it again, I have an Athlon 2000+ XP now, o/c to XP2200+

oddly... I updated my detonator drivers and everything smoothed out...

How weird is that? Runnin' like a champ now! Nice and fast too!

As for my themes... I put my "Themes" under services "Manual"... no wonder Style XP kept waiting to be started... (Duh!)

I use the safe settings (too lazy to manually check what other stuff I can turn off) and the system works like a dream. I also use BootVis and I now have 24 second boot times.
