k first off, i dont believe they make realplayer 10 for linux but i might be wrong, .bin ? thatsa cd image so no go for linux there, anything u used on windows wont work on linux (without emulation anyways) rpms are like exes windows, most installable linux apps come in .rpm form.

About realplayer u can get athe codec for linux i believe but not the player, so youll be able to watch it in a linux video player

Check out www.Linspire.com.

If you're new to Linux and want to convertt, this is the distro for me. the Windows to Linux learning curve was easier here than any other linux distro I've tried.

I switched about a year ago. Wow! What a difference! Everything I hated about Windows is gone. No crashes. No wife waking me up at night to fix her computer when it's hit with the "blue screen of death" or slowing to a snail because of all the spyware and driver conflicts. No virus problems - None. No violations of my privacy with every click of my mouse. Lots and Lots of programs. Much much cheaper.. It just works day after day after day. Upgrades and installs automatically.

I was and am amaized.

You can download a live cd version so that you can play with it by booting from the cd (it won't affect windows) and running the os from the disc. Also there is a nice demo at their home page for an overview.

My favorite Linux Distro is SuSE. The GUI is impressive, and it has many built in applications that make life easier when learning.

It has the KDE interface, and has an application called YaST. It stands for "Yet another system tool". It configures hardware, installs apps, configures the OS, and many other things.

YaST is probably the best thing about SuSE. I found that distro to be very user friendly .

Heres all the codecs you need http://ftp5.mplayerhq.hu/mplayer/rel...050115.tar.bz2.

I can't remember the folder u extract em to though. You should beableto extract them and set your movie player to wherever youextracted them.

EDIT: Also if your still have problems try downloading KPlayerand running it. Yoyu can find it herehttp://kplayer.sourceforge.net/

*.bin are usually binaries, like if you d/l the Sun JRE or SDK they are bin files that you run. And almost all installable linux apps come as some form of a tar ball (*.tgz, *.tar.gz, *.bz, *.bz2,...) where you have to compile them.

His problem isnt a dependencie. It is because Suse 9.2 doesn'thave any video codecs pre installed. Also .bin files in linux are just like .exe in windows. They aren't just used for cdimages.

SuSE comes with a crippled version of xine that can't play encrypted dvd's.you can d/l and install this .with SuSE the best way is to add the pacman repository to your sources.(you can add GNOME and KDE repositories as well to run versions that aren't considered stable enough for the main release)
on a side note.....Core really isn't all that great im my experience.RPM's are nice, but over-all it just feels slow compared to other distros.

comoiling Im running SuSE 9.1 Pro on my dual boot system, alongside winxp.

If i can find rpms for programs, its a lot easier than compiling tar balls, however as someone has said, most linux apps are supplied in tar balls.

Just do some research and you'll be compiling in bourne shell in no time, its not hard.

This should help http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/softinstall.html

Another excellent collection of info, once you start getting more comfortable, and are ready to start digging into the core of Linux is at www.tldp.org

You'll find guides and Howtos for just about anything there.
