Hey everyone I remember twizted posted something about this a few months back now, how do I move my hd from one pc to another? Theres something in the registry I have to delete but I don't remember so if someone could enlighten me it would be very helpful. TIA

ive recently been into the regestry to resolve some kicking ass on spyware my brother "wanked" into my system - if you get my drift. on the run - regedit (which im sure you already know) i did notice an entire section devoted to hardware - didnt open it though - let me have a look a mo -

yeh you need the hkey_local_machine\description\System. there you should have 7 items on the right hand side. it looks like you could in theory remove the bios information, this means the default bios ID would come into play, thereby not stalling XP or whatever version you have on booting up.

Then when in windows the regestry would recover, installing the new bios ID. This seems to me the best way to get around it. But ive never tried it - better to listen to someone else!!

What is your current system, and what is the new system? Please be specific.

I'm running Windows XP Sp1 on a Shuttle Ak32a mobo and Athlon XP 1700+, I Want to move my hd temporarely to a Dell PC (Dimension L566cx) so I can install some software I want on my pc but its dell and will only install when it recognizes a dell pc.

Sorry, I'm not going to help you with that. There's a reason it will only install on a Dell - the software license specifies that you only have license to run it on Dell hardware.

sorry...it's against PR rules to 'work around' stuff like that...they could be held liable.
