Default Going from 32-bit to 64-bit Vista

I have Vista Ultimate 32-bit, but want 64-bit. Do I have to buy an upgrade or the full version or is something easier?

I don't have ultimate but I think you get both 32 bit and 64 bit versions in the box. If you have anything else you can get the 64 bit version from MS.

Compare editions: 64-bit editions of Windows Vista

isn't one of the features of vista that if you want to upgrade, all you need is a new key because every version is already on the disk (as long as it isn't an upgrade disk)?

xp user so i'm not positive........

He is correct, you should have both discs in the box. There should be two discs in there, directly underneath the other, either that or they're both on the same disc.

you are all correct, but let me claify it a bit better.

Vista Ultimate retail version comes with BOTH 32 bit and 64 bit DVDs.
OEM just has the 32 bit DVD.

you can use your product key for either version.. even OEM keys, you just need to get the 64 bit DVD yourself.
you do not need to purchase another product key if you already own a key for ultimate.
normally you can contact MS and they will ship to you for a small shipping fee. iirc $10

hope this helps a bit more

I've installed 64 on 2 machines now and TCG_Modder is correct on all counts. Although you should be aware that it's not a real "upgrade". It's a full reinstall and will not save any settings from the 32 bit version.
