Default XP Boot

When my computer first starts up I am asked to Select Windows XP Professional, or Windows XP Professional (Bootscreen) how do I get rid of this in msconfig?

You don't get rid of it in msconfig. You need to edit your boot.ini file in your C:\ drive. It's normally hidden.

It should look like this at the moment:

[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Change it so look like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Right there in the root of the C drive. It's set with the hidden attribute, so if you haven't already you'll need to adjust your Windows settings to show hidden files.

To show hidden files: Open any folder, click on "Tools" in the menu and select "Folder Options" In the new window select "View" Scroll down in the list and under "Hidden files and folders" select "Show hidden files and folders". I can't recall but you may have to turn off the option a little further down which says "Hide protected operating system files. (Recommended)".

Then you should be able to open the file with Notepad and edit away.

If you can't get it going that way, there is some software you can use to modify the boot.ini file. I'll look for it when I get home.
