Old background image

In windows ME/98/95 if you have an old image that was used for the background that shows up at the start up and I don't want it to be there anymore but it is still displaying during start up does anyone know where this image is located? Thank you in advance?

I think it was boot.bmp in the c:\WINDOWS dir, or WINDOWS\SYSTEM. been too long, can't remember.

Its basically due to useing a JPG or GIF image as your background.. If you convert your background you want to use to a BMP and switch to it you should not have this problem.. The old / Last BMP that pops up right before your actual desktop background is because active desktop had not activated yet... try that..

only use BMP's for your background on pre 2000/NT/XP systems to avoid this...

**EDIT** I may be wrong but I thought you were talking about after windows starts to load and your get presented with a diff image than that which you have set in display properties.....

The link Johhny suggested is to change the Boot screen not the initial desktop image...

Also, like Twizted said though, kinda..... if you want to save an image as a sesktop background, instead of just right clicking and choosing "save as background", save the image to your HDD, convert it to a bmp, and then save it in your windows folder (for 95/98). In XP, any allowable image saved in your My Documents/My Pictures folder will work.
For 95/98, the above solution will prevent the last image you saved from your web browser from being completely replaced.
As for the logo.sys...... isn't the logow.sys the shut-down logo and logos.sys the start-up?
Or do I have those backwards?

Edit: nevermind, I did have them backwards.....umm, yeah, listen to Jonny

Well I just upgraded him to XP (he needed it... not only was he using ME but he was having other problems) I didn't test these suggestions but thank you all for the quick replies (the reason I just didn't upgrade in the first place was because I didn't have a copy on hand. (he bought himself an upgrade to use xp)
