does anyone use cleartype method of smoothing windows fonts?
I'm just curious

are there any advantages / disadvantages from it, over standard type ?

Well I just changed my setting but I really see no difference so far......anybody comment on this???

i heard that this was for flat screens er sumtin cuz they dont contrast the skinnier letters as well.....not sure though

I use it. Smoothes fonts quite well. Designed for laptops my ass...

Yeah Ive been using it for a few hours now and I seem to be able to read everything easier

What it does is put a bit of a border around letters / darkens the background to emphasize the letters and give them more contrast, which makes it much easier to see on crappy lcd displays. Not really necesarry on a good monitor.

Not true. Font smoothing will improve appearance on any display.

I agree 100%...it adds a shadow and some AA on the text, and was designed for LCD's, but in my experience it improves readability on all monitors.

I tried it, i dont like it. Makes everything darker and fuzzyer. Mabey im just to used to the old one.

Same here Dimazz, I tried both and I prefer the standard smoothing option on the LCD I use.

Me four heh..it makes it fuzzy like the others said. I just have a lil black background behind my fonts so it works well that way.

You guys must be some farsighted mofos =P..maybe it has to do with res too..what res you guys runnin at? I am using 1152 x 864.
