Default Adding L2 and L1

Here is a something for tweakers to try. I found it once on a site that mentioned that XP Home and Pro does not enable the L2 Data Cache to help boost system performance..

So the tweak stated to do this:

Goto the registery and locate the key;
HKey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management

Add the new DWORD of;

SecondLevelDataCache

And add the value of your L2 Cache; Mine is 256k, others are 64k, 128k, 512k

262144

Now add the new DWORD of;

FirstLevelDataCache

Add the value of your L1 Cache; Mine is 64k, others are 128k, 256k

65536

Now exit the registery and reboot the computer. Let me know if you see any change in loading time in the OS and overall system performance.

There is alot of people saying it works and those who says it does nothing....

Thanks all

You know, I have heard about this tweak being so many things (good and bad) and I'm tired of hearing about it.
I'll Be Back, with a benchmark comparison.

I personally experienced no difference.

Ok, I'm interested..... My system already has those entries, but they're both set to 0. On a P4 2.4B what value do I need to put in for the L1? The amount of L1 Data Cache, L1 Trace, or both added?

Use the The amount of L1 Data Cache

You should be able to find the L1 and L2 by using a program like Wincpuid. Or something simular.

And thanks Tek for putting mind at ease...lol

I will give Sandrasoft a test spin too and see my results..
